Helpful Articles on Both Cases Empty

Dear delegates,

I see some great debate going on! Here are some articles that might help enrich your knowledge of the cases that will be discussed in court.

These articles discuss prosecution against Omar-Al-Bashir. Although both are dated by a few months, the information is relevant for everyone. They provide important information for those prosecuting Sudan, and will help those defending it be prepared to answer certain accusations. Those of you who are judges and witnesses for the case will find the second article particularly helpful, since it addresses actual recognition of Al-Bashir's crimes by the ICC.

The next website will take you to an article on Bush's war crimes in the War on Terror, and focuses on torture and crimes specifically towards children. It is a question of major importance to crimes against humanity regarding the War on Terror, and brings all these crimes together in a legal perspective.

And finally, here is one more article selected from the Huffington post once again:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/02/02/bush-war-crimes-european_n_163074.html

Although it is rather dated, it will give those of you representing European nations especially a deeper understanding of the roles of activists accusing Bush. This set of points highlights many accusations to be brought upon the Bush Administration, so the USA might also find this helpful to come up with back-up arguments.

Hopefully these articles may contribute to your understanding of each topic.
Good luck! Wink

Helpful Articles on Both Cases Empty
PostSubject: Basic ICC Reminders   Helpful Articles on Both Cases EmptyFri Sep 24, 2010 5:12 pm

Hello once again delegates,

I just wanted to remind you of what the ICC is, and what its goals are. As you already know, the International Criminal Court came into being in 2002, in order to end impunity and seek justice for the most appalling crimes against humanity. It was the first permanent international judicial body capable of trying individuals for genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes when national courts are incapable or unwilling to do so.

We are in the process of finishing the ICC handbook (be patient with us!) But we will definitely have it for you by the next caucus meeting. Please remember that as selected members of the ICC, you must work to promote an open and cooperative attitude on a pragmatic basis. You are representing international lawyers, foreign experts, and criminologists and therefore, you must learn to be multi diciplinary in your visions of solutions and strategic planning. You must be flexible in your ability to make alliances and come up with methods to interact with each other, in the attempt to achieve justice in the international community.

The handbook will address all of this in more detail. Meanwhile, focus on your countries' positions on each case.

Thank you for your cooperation Smile
Jasmine
